As of 25 April 1996, Lyra was just over six months old and weighed in at 17.75 pounds (8.1 kg); she was 26.25 inches long (67 cm). As of mid-June, the unofficial DadMeter showed she was up to 19.5 pounds (8.9 kg). What a little tub, eh? And at her nine-month checkup she tilted the scales at 19.6 pounds and had grown another inch (27.25 in, 69 cm).
Lyra flirted with a career as a movie starlet or fashion model for a few months; she had her cool shades and knew she looked good:
A prominent mention in the Seattle Times (enter keyword `Roelof'--yes, misspelled--and click the Search button) on 16 June 1996 sent her popularity index soaring. (Dad was somewhat misquoted, but what the heck... Bill Gates should have it so good.) Lyra even went so far as to retain her own lawyer, Aunt Stacey (Esq.), a very shady character who prefers to work in the background:
But a run-in with a rogue pickle quickly soured Lyra on the whole idea:
She was rendered unconscious almost immediately:
These days Greg's little Pickle Puss is thinking more along the lines of mountain climbing. Here she's scaling a particularly steep and scary face:
Don't look down! But the climb is successful; Lyra reaches the top and shows the world how she laughs in the face of danger (not to mention plays with it):
Oh, the horror...how can she stand it? But then, Dad always knew she was severely warped.
That's all for this month! Beam on down in another two or three months for Tree-Hugger's Revenge! Or something like that.
